Armin Hofmann

I thought it would be interesting to do this weeks post on a Swiss graphic designer since that is what we are doing with our posters so I chose Armin Hofmann. Armin was born on June 29th, 1920 and later attended Basel School of Design. He followed Emil Ruder who was head of the graphic design and a huge part in developing the graphic design style known as the Swiss style. His posters emphasize economical uses of color and fonts. His posters have been widely exhibited in major galleries, one being the New York Museum of Modern Art. He became an influential educator and later retired in 1987. He was the writer of the textbook ‘Graphic Design Manual’ that is a very popular textbook in the Graphic Design field.
