Ruedi Ruegg ---Josef Muller-Brockman ---Hans Finsler

Ruedi Ruegg was born in Zurich, 1936 Ruegg was educated in Zurich, Switzerland under two other great designers; Josef Muller Brockman and Hans Finsler. I have posted examples of their respective works. Ruegg moved to the United States in the early sixties to work for one of the great American graphic artists, Paul Rand. In fact, Paul Rand was the first artist I wrote about comes full circle. I digress.
There is not much information on Ruedi Ruegg. I will provide information on Josef Muller-Brockman and Hans Finsler as I stated earlier these two designers worked and influenced Ruegg. You can see the similarities of all three designers linear and geometric and I will be bold to say it is art within art, meaning the graphics convey messages of music also an art form, furniture design, architecture, etc. I will post some of my findings.

Josef Muller-Brockman a Swiss born graphic designer and teacher, studied art history, architecture, and design at University in Zurich. Muller-Brockman opened a studio in the capital city of Zurich in 1936 specializing in graphic design and photography. In 1966 Muller-Brockman became the European design consultant for IBM. His works are described as simple designs and a clean use of typography.

Hans Finsler born and raised in Germany studied architecture in Stuttgart and Munich (1911-1914). Finsler studied history of art from 1915-1919 in Berlin. Finsler, first was a substitute teacher. A self-taught photographer working on a movie set began his career as graphic artist. In order to supplement his sub-teaching he opened his studio specializing I advertising photography out of his apartment. Finsler “is counted among the most important representatives of the new photography and the new objectivity in photography.”
